What is the Google Earth API?

The Google Earth Plug-in and its JavaScript API let you embed Google Earth, a true 3D digital globe, into your web pages. Using the API you can draw markers and lines, drape images over the terrain, add 3D models, or load KML files, allowing you to build sophisticated 3D map applications. If you have an existing Maps API site, you can 3D-enable your page with as little as one line of code.

Netbook Relion Adrena Pertama Integrasikan 3.5G

Relion mengumumkan Relion Adrena sebagai netbook pertama yang dipasarkan di Indonesia dengan kemampuan modem 3.5G dan DVDRW yang sudah terintegrasi untuk mobilitas lebih.

PT. Berca Cakra Teknologi, selaku produsen PC Nasional Relion hari Selasa 18 November 2008 kemarin mengumumkan produk Adrena ini bersama dengan 4 produk lainnya termasuk PC lengkap seharga US$ 200 dan PC hemat listrik basis Intel Atom yang akan Tambah.info bahas di artikel berikutnya.

Samsung’s Latest 240Hz LED TVs

Samsung just released three new 240Hz LED TVs, which are competitor to the LG’s 240Hz LH90 LED TVs. Known as the PAVV 8000, 7000 and 6000 series, these TVs are compatible with YouTube, DLNA, and USB 2.0 port to display both photos and DviX videos from USB flash drives. The Samsung PAVV 8000 series will be available in 46- and 55-inch and will be released in May in the USA, Europe and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, the specs for the PAVV 7000 and 6000 series are still unavailable. [Samsung via Akihabara]

LG canU S1000 Mobile Phone

LG has finally rolled out another phone from its canU series in the form of the canU S1000. The handset comes jam packed with a 2.8 inch AMOLED WQVGA display at 400 x 240 resolution, T-DMB support, rotating display for up to 180 degrees, mobile web and email support, and an integrated dictionary. Three New Slim Desktop PCs From Samsung

Samsung Korea has proudly announced three new slim desktop PCs from its MagicStation series this morning. These new desktops are the DM-X100, DM-R100 and the DN-Z100. Both DM-R100 and DN-Z100 come in a conventional design. Meanwhile, the Samsung DM-X100 has a compact size and measures at only 5.6 cm x 20.1 cm x 26.34 cm. These computers feature the Core 2 Duo CPU and the NVidia GeForce Video Card 9 Series with HDMI output. [Akihabara]

LG’s Latest 27-inch LCD Monitor and Full HDTV Combo

LG Display today rolled out its new 27-inch LCD monitor and full HDTV combo in South Korea. It features a 120Hz clear motion drive with 8ms response speed, 16:9 aspect ratio display, and 1920 x 1080 resolution. No word on pricing or availability so far. [AVING]

Samsung OZ Double Folder Phone

Korean giant Samsung offers a new mobile phone for the South Korean market. Dubbed as the double-jointed Samsung SPH-W6450, the phone is specially designed for portable Internet viewing. The handset is also known as the OZ Double Folder Phone. You are able to fold and unfold the handset vertically whenever calling or sending text messages. The mobile phone can also be fold horizontally to comfortably watch some TV via DMB, browse the Internet or watch compressed movies. The Samsung SPH-W6450 is priced at $395 (after conversion). LG DV4S and DV4M DVD Players

Here are a couple of DVD players from LG. The DV4S supports Dvix HD video while the DV4M is a more music oriented DVD player. It is able to convert CD audio to MP3 for storage and USB device playing. Pricing and availability is not known yet. [Akihabara]

The Intel® Business Exchange Software Store in Europe has just been launched, bringing a new sales channel for selling software to European countries – with localized sites for the UK, Germany, and France (official launch to follow by the end of the month). Good news.

Behind the scenes or rather behind the store

Google Street View takes wrong turn in Japan and Greece

Google has continued to experience international incidents as it attempts to take its Street View feature worldwide. It’s been forced to start again from scratch in Japan, while Greece has put a freeze on the firm shooting any more images.

Staff collecting images in Japan will ditch the work they’ve already done after complaints that the pictures included too much detail from private areas. The firm has agreed to lower the positioning of the cameras mounted on its cars by 16 inches to reduce the likelihood of seeing over fences into private areas.

The firm says it recognizes this is a local issue caused by the narrowness of many Japanese streets, with very little distance between the street and the homes themselves. Lowering the cameras allows the firm to keep locals happy, without compromising its previous stance that it’s acceptable to photograph any view which could be seen by somebody standing in a public area.

Meanwhile data protection officials in Greece have rejected Google’s promises that it will blur all faces and license plates before publishing pictures. The Data Protection Authority has ordered the firm to halt taking any more pictures until after a review of the legality of the scheme.

The Associated Press notes that the Authority has particularly strong powers over public photography and filming and even put restrictions on government security cameras set up for the Athens Olympics.

This week’s incidents follow a mixed reaction for locals to Google’s Street View projects around the world. Angry villagers in one British street physically prevented the firm’s car from taking shots of their homes. However, locals in Pittsburgh were more welcoming, creating this lively if somewhat unrepresentative image of one alleyway.
